A writer’s path
How AuthorWorkplace works
- The scene — the unit of a novel In AuthorWorkplace a novel is written in scenes. A scene is the smallest piece of the story that has a place of its own, a time of its own and its own…
- The canon — the memory of the novel The canon is what is true in the novel: the intent, the style, the characters, the places, the way the world works.
- The path of a scene: from intent to acceptance Every scene takes the same path: intent → brief → text → acceptance. The first step and the last one are yours.
- The author and the assistant: who decides what The author of the novel is you. The AI here is an assistant: it writes, suggests and checks, but the decisions are yours alone.
- A book you bring in: chapters and scenes Finished books are usually written in chapters, not in scenes. During unpacking every chapter becomes one scene.
Getting started
- How to connect your computer The AuthorWorkplace Bridge application links your AI to the workbench in your browser. You connect once.
- How to connect your AI Scenes are written by an AI you already have access to. We recommend a subscription — an agent app — but an access key works too.
- How to start your first novel A novel takes a minute to start. You do not need a finished premise: notes, characters and the world come later, inside.
- How to build the canon: characters and world The canon is what is true in the novel: the premise, the style, the characters, the places, the way the world works.
- How to write and accept your first scene A scene goes: intent → launch → text → acceptance. You say what should happen, the assistant writes, you read and decide.
