Space and the picture archive
Pictures take up the most space. When a novel is finished, you can put the originals of its pictures into a single file of your own and free up the space, and bring them back later. The gallery, the book and the videos keep working all the while.
- How much space is taken up is shown at the bottom of the novels panel and in each novel’s row. The details are in the novel’s “⋯” menu, the Space… item.
- To free up the space, click Move media library to an archive…. The window shows how much goes into the file and how much stays.
- Tick “I will keep the archive file in a safe place” and click Move. The AuthorWorkplace Bridge application asks where to save the file. If you cannot see its window, click the AuthorWorkplace icon on the taskbar.
- Then the application writes the file, checks it and only after that frees the space. You can close the window: the progress stays visible on the desk.
- The archive file is the only place where the originals remain. Keep it safe: without it the originals cannot be brought back.
- A novel with an archive is marked in the novels panel: “originals in an archive”. Until the archive is attached, new frames with the earlier references cannot be drawn, and the book and the videos get the smaller previews.
- To bring the originals back, open Space…, click Attach archive… and choose that same file — its name is shown in the window. Everything comes back at once and only to that same novel.
